Who is This Tuba-Euph Quartet?

Post by Steve Marcus »

Sean may want to move this topic to the "Who Played Tuba..." forum, but the answers may be more quickly forthcoming in the "TubeNet" forum:

http://webtv.tv2.no/webtv/sumo/?treeId= ... gId=275653

What is the name of this T-E quartet? Who are the individual players? Where are they from, and where do they perform? Any other recordings or videos?

In the interview with the singer prior to the performance, what is being discussed about the quartet?

The quartet isn’t discussed at all.

There is no mention of Dørje on

http://www.tubaforum.com/

But that may be the place to ask.

The singer comes from Sarpsborg in SE Norway, which happens being a strong band town. But then Norway is a strong band country.

Are the two center girls playing Willson Eb basses?

The sound is almost too good to be live mix, but I won't dismiss it.

Just imagine the road trips on THAT tour bus...

The Euph player is Margie Antrobus, an old college friend of mine.

She played Baritone with the YBS Band under David King.
Margie is unassuming but is a truly exceptional musician in all senses.

Don't know anything about the other members. If I find anything out I'll pass it on.

Have you seen Nedra Johnson’s band with 4 ladies on tubas? I can’t find the video right now. The band has a name, I wouldn’t dare to use, hadn’t they used it themselves: Fat Bottom Ladies.

Tubawise not much happens until Nedra puts down the guitar and grabs a tuba to solo on it. Her dad could be proud. They call him HoJo.

The Norwegian girls sound nice and in tune, but the music isn’t exactly difficult. I wondered about the white outfit, but the explanation is simple. The North European protestant countries have a “konfirmation” for the kids aged 14. The girls still fit their outfit from that day.

A tiny bit more info from Margie:

"We're called Ultrasound :) The girl next to me is called Ingunn, then there's Susanne and at the end Maria."

There you go.
She never mentioned any recordings or anything else.

Klaus, if the other players play anything like Margie the group could probably transcribe a Carl Nielsen Symphony and sound well... :)
