If Sean cannot make this change, I have a suggestion for the near future. Just copy and paste the decription into your first email to the buyer. Then it will be saved in your "sent" folder for safe keeping.

Twice now I have purchased something from a Tubenet member, and was disappointed when I received the item. (Both times, a mouthpiece.)
BOTH TIMES, I returned to the "auction" to verify the product description, but it was wiped out.
You have some members who will say anything to sell anything, then they edit their For Sale advertisement while the goods are in transit.
I can't verify the purchase unless I "copied" the advertisement before I purchased the item.
PLEASE STOP US FROM EDITING THE FOR SALE ADVERTISEMENTS.
For the sake of integrity in the descriptions, we will have to live with further details being added in another Reply.

Naw! Can't do that, Ryan. That would be entirely too easy. I'm sorry to have to bring such bad news.
I just noticed that if you hit the pm button on the post with the description, it automatically quotes the post for you.
...but now that i've re-read the o.p., and looked at all of the options, I understand his frustration. Just because you hit the quote button doesn't prove a thing. You can alter the quote once it's in the window. Unless you can remove the edit function for the "for sale" section, there is really no relief here.

OK...so I went to change my listing for my 3050 to drop the price and....I can't edit the title of my sale...which has the price in it.
I find this a bit annoying since I like to tell people my prices upfront so they don't have to wade through my entire post to find the price drop. I also like to change all the prices in my listing to my potential buyers don't get confused.
And if I sell my item I want to be able to mark it as sold so people don't waste my time (or their time) asking me if it is sold.
I understand your concern but you can take screen shots of the add or save it as a .PDF to your computer (which I do with all money transactions) so you have proof. YES a .PDF can be altered and so can a .JPEG but that takes much more work to do than to wipe a post.
Mainly this is a rant 'cause I'm worried that this change will harm some potential sale options for me and other board members. I understand the concern but (hopefully) all transactions were done through PayPal and (hopefully) Sean has a disclaimer on the "For Sale" section saying that he bears no responsibility for any and all sales. BECAUSE if I was an ass I could hold Sean liable (i.e. sue him) if I purchased a horn listed as mint but the bell comes folded or dented. That's why E-Bay and most other forums have a disclaimer in the "Sale" section.
...and bruce...cry to someone else. We've all been scammed on ebay and other sites. I got scammed out of almost $500 'cause I didn't read the fine print.
Did I learn my lesson..YES Have I taken precautions to avoid this again...YES Has it happened again...NOPE
rule of thumb I learned is to ALWAYS ask for extra pictures to confirm the item exists. Ask for a phone number and call the seller or ask for a personal e-mail address to confirm that he/she exists. And just be careful who you buy from. All online transactions carry a risk but if you're smart about it you wont get burned.
I always download a PDF of all conversations I have with a seller, so if I need to I can refer to them if something happens. OR PRINT THEM OUT!!!!! so you have hard copies of everything. Almost impossible to fake and holds up pretty well when you confront someone about it.
I'm done ranting and I'm going to drop the price on my 3050 later on but hopefully this wont harm my sale options.

I'm agreeing with Yale on this one. The fact is that I have been hit before on misinformation, and I was just hit one more time with misinformation.... I just bought a Sterling Deluxe gig bag from this very for sale forum.
Thinking that I would get the jump on selling my present Tuxedo gig bag, I advertised it in advance of recieving the Sterling Deluxe. On Friday I recieved the Sterling Deluxe and found out that the seller did not measure the bag correctly because I had a 6" gap in the zipper with my horn inside. So I went to the ad for my Tuxedo, and edited it to say that it was not available at this time. Then after I mitigated my damages by selling the Sterling at a Tuba/Euphonium conference, I went to my Tuxedo ad to remove the blurb about "not available at this time." That is when I found that I could not edit my original ad.
Since I could not edit the original ad, I created a new ad for the same item just to show that it was available again.

Every time a seller chooses to alter the information in a For Sale post they will have to clutter the board with a NEW post after having posted a "Please disregard this thread" notice in the old, inaccurate or out of date one. We will soon have a thousand "current" ads for not nearly so many horns, what with the decision to remove the Edit function and the tanking economy. I guess that no one has noticed that recent ads have had to be altered a LOT (over a dozen times for many) to lower the original price and get a sale.
