Hi everyone,
Me and my high school quintet is planning to play the first movement of Ewald's Quintet No.3. We searched for scores in various sources and we found out that there are quite a lot of versions available for this piece. Do anyone have any experiences on these different versions and would recommend one for us? Thanks for helping!

Re: Ewald Quintet No.3?
There are four versions that I know of:
Empire Brass
Chester Music (unavailable in the USA)
BVD Press (comes with all three quintets)
Music Express
All work quite well, but do have some differences. One of the bigger differences is in the Empire Brass version which leaves out several repeats while that others do not. On the other hand, most quintets don't play the repeats in certain places anyway because it makes the chart quite long!
As mentioned above, double check which edition you need if it is for contest.
Of course I am partial to the BVD Press version. In addition to hard copies from dealers, it can also be purchased digitally here:

If you can find them, there were reviews in the ITG Journal and ITEA Journal a couple years back.
Good luck. All three Ewald Quintets make for great music and you will probably play them as long as you play your horn!
