TubaChristmas IS happening in Kansas City - spread the word!

Post by Frank Byrne »

Yesterday afternoon Harvey Phillips called to tell me that after 28 years, there would be no TubaChristmas in Kansas City this year, and asked for my help. Today I agreed that The Kansas City Symphony would host TubaChristmas 2008 so the tradition can continue.

Time is very short and I need to ask the help of all TubeNetters in the Kansas City region to please pass the word to anyone and everyone who might want to attend. Kansas City has traditionally had over 500 players for TubaChristmas so there are many people who are used to coming. Here are the details:

DATE: Saturday, December 20, 2008
LOCATION: Lyric Theatre, 1029 Central St., Kansas City, MO 64105
REGISTRATION: Begins 9:00 a.m. on site
REHEARSAL: 10:00 a.m.
PERFORMANCE: 12 noon

Of course the performance is free and open to the public. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

Participants will pay a $5 registration fee at the Theatre and can purchase music for the event on site.

Parking is available for a fee at the 10 Central Garage and street parking is also available. For a parking map go to http://www.kcsymphony.org and click on the "Concert Experience" tab and then "Lyric Theatre Information" where you will find a pdf of the parking map. You can also check http://www.TubaChristmas.com for more information about the history of TubaChristmas and other details.

PLEASE help us make the Kansas City 2008 TubaChristmas a success, and contact everyone you possibly can. Also please pass this to anyone you know in local community bands, etc.

Thank you very much for your help and support. This means a lot to Harvey. I hope to see you there. :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: etc.

Bump for all KC area tuba euphonium players. Please tell everyone you know so we can make TubaChristmas 2008 a success on short notice. Thanks.

It says that the performance will be from the audience seats in the theater? Where will the audience be?

Thanks for the question! We plan to have the performers in the audience seats on the floor of the hall - as close to the front as possible, and we will put the audience in the balcony. That way they will be able to enjoy the full impact of all the tuba/euphonium vibes. IF the ususal number of players show up, we don't have enough chairs and maybe even room on stage, hence the audience seating idea. Hope you can make it.

Thanks. Harvey told me that Columbus also did it that way, and I'm glad to hear from a participant that it worked well. Within the week I will settle the conductor for the event, I will update with that information. Harvey said that on the morning of the 20th (the day of the KC event) Good Morning America will feature about 50 tuba/euph players performing from Rockefeller Center, so I am hoping our local ABC affiliate will want to cover our event later in the day. TubaChristmas KC is two weeks from today!
