It's a CC tuba of some kind. If you look at his fingerings. It's during the section just after the low Eb in the first movement 2 bars before figure 4.

What you are seeing on the lefthand side of the tuba that look like two extra finger levers for a six valved tuba is a bright reflection on the top and bottom of the nickel silver bottom bow-to-top bow ferrule that joins the two sections of big tubing. My suspicion is that he is playing a lacquered, yellow-brass, Rudolph Meinl CC tuba. What look like the levers for valves 5 and 6 are too low on the left side to be valve levers. I also do not see anything looking like 5th and 6th valve plumbing.

I'm going to have to agree. That is reflection probably of some specific lights or something.

It's hard to see, but his thumb looks tucked quite into the thumb ring, so not needing a 5th valve. 4 valve? Probably a Rudolph Meinl...that's my vote at least too.

Looks like a Meinl Weston Model 30 me. I think thats the designation for the Meinl Weston Model 32 sans the 5th valve.

Ok, I'll bite...

The player in the video doesn't look like either of the players you showed. He's much younger than Armando Santiago, and doesn't look much like Roberto Garamendi. This was recorded on 2/27/2004, and you gave the current orchestra's tuba players. Who do you suppose was playing with the orchestra in 2004? Or was this a sub?

Was the whole point of this thread to "prove" that the 186 can be used effectively for Prokofiev 5?

Duh...

I just had a thought. And those who know me can vouch for how rare this is. Why not have a Christmas carol using the title of this thread? Possible start to the lyrics:

What tuba is this
Which laid to rest

OK. I'm leaving now.
