Shameles Plug - Cleveland POPS on NBC

Post by J.c. Sherman »

Hi All,

Shameless plug: Check out the Cleveland POPS Orchestra with Peter Cetera on Christmas day:

"Smuckers Presents: Hot Ice, Cool Sounds, with Peter Cetera"

3:00 p.m. on NBC, Christmas Day, December 25, 2008

I'm the lucky bloke on 2nd bone (doubling large bore and small bore tenor). The tubist is Gary Adams, on a PT4P. I can share what everyone's playing if you want :-) The low brass gets a lot of face time - you can even see me often behind Cetera... it's kind of funny!

But the skaters are awesome too! The ice dancer (singular) is ... eye riveting! Music ranges from Chicago to Rimsky-Korsakov. Quality entertainment in an era of art-bereft television!

Merry Christmas everyone!

What's Gary doing these days, as far as regular gigs?? Terrific guy, terrific player.

He still plays all over the region, and teaches at Cleveland State and other locales. He's really an excellent musician and one of the most fun guys to work with in the business...

I used the beast in a concert in March. What you're seeing is an artifact of the Christian Lindberg Valves - they look really odd from certain angles.

The player (Paul Hungerford) plays tenor in my quintet, and to save me from bringing a fourth instrument to the gig, he carted along his bass so I could cover the one work with bass... Nice horn, but I loathe those valves.
