This is a better shot of the bell of my Sousaphone - taken by a Brazilian newspaper photographer when the California Repercussions played at Oktoberfest in Blumenau a few years ago. BTW, the original art was by Wally Wood in a 1950's Mad Magazine version of Flash Gordon. I hand-painted the bell in 1987.

Ever since I was in a beer tent in 40F weather- raining outside the tent- drinking a wide variety of local brewed beers from a glass that said "Mustache rides- 25 cents" and hearing an oompah band where the tuba player had a beat up Eb helicon, I've known what I wanted to do with my life. I like David's paint job a lot better! My daughter is studying art and is an old-time EC comics fan. She was looking over my shoulder when I was looking at the post and got pretty excited because she recognized it as Wally Wood.

I didn't spend much time on the paint. It was right after I was given the horn last year from my school. That was before I was 18, and I had to fight to even get the spray paint (though that is an entirely different story). I really am planning on doing a cool design or something when I get some free time.
I was also (looking for the word, not quite yelled at, but still they were annoyed) because I took this to a pep band game, and our school colors are orange and black and...well, the horn isn't.
If anyone's in the area and would liek to paint it, feel free.
