I am a Tuba player from Denmark, i have been playing the Tuba for 30 years give or take, and have in the last couple of years been playing on af Rudolf Meinl F Tuba with 6 valves. The Tuba in question is from 1962 and i would like to know, since google does not give me alot of information, how much a tuba, in good condition, recently treated with an chemical "bath" is worth, should i decide to sell it and aquire a new one?
A picture will be uploaded, as soon as possible
Thank you in advance for an honest reply

Re: Rudolf Meinl F Tuba 6 Valves Value Question
High-quality 6-valve F tubas in solid, playable condition seem to sell in the range of $3500-$4000, and in excellent condition can go for much more, at least among U.S.-based buyers. But since the RM is not a familiar F-tuba brand among U.S. players, you'll need to work much harder to describe it so that they can become familiar. In particularly, honesty about its intonation characteristics will help.Pultz wrote:I am a Tuba player from Denmark, i have been playing the Tuba for 30 years give or take, and have in the last couple of years been playing on af Rudolf Meinl F Tuba with 6 valves. But the best way to determine what people will pay is to actually offer it for sale, assuming that's what you want to do. Everything else is just reading tea leaves.

Re: Rudolf Meinl F Tuba 6 Valves Value Question
Hej Torben, Nice to see another Dane on this forum! For a long time there have been only two of us. Me and Klaus (Imperialbari).
Sounds like a nice tuba. I have never seen one like this for sale in Denmark. I have though seen a 5 valve W.Meinl-Weston F tuba for 25.000DKr and a 5 valve B&S F for 15.000DKr.
High quality tubas seems to sell fast on dba.dk when priced reasonably. On the plus side yours has 6 valves, but the age of the instrument might be a minus. Your tuba might not be "what is hip" at the moment. Anyway I think you could get 20.000DKr and more for your tuba in Denmark. But again, it depends on how fast you want to sell it.
I would love to see some pictures of the horn.

I got it back today after a total overhaul and would like to insert some pictures
I have send them to Rick, and I hope he will upload them for me.

I took the liberty of shrinking them a bit and also opening up the shadow areas to make them easier to see. I'm on dialup and needed to make them a little easier to transmit.Pultz wrote:I got it back today after a total overhaul and would like to insert some pictures

Torben,
Your RM1F-41-6SB F-tuba seems to be in great condition. I would just mention that the valve linkage in the photo is not what the instrument would have been equipped with from the factory in 1962. Either the valve linkage has been upgraded, or the instrument was made in 1982, which seems more likely. That is good news for you, as that would boost the value of the instrument.

Re: Rudolf Meinl F Tuba 6 Valves Value Question
Hey Lee
There are an inscription on the blowing tube: 280762 and a serielnumber 2059.
According to the repair shop the tuba is in verry fine conditon, and it will last many years from now.
The chemical treatment has made it more easy in the low register, the high sounds almost like a euphonium. Alle the way though from from bottum to the top, it has a verry soft sound.
After the repair, I dont think I will sell, unless I get a top dollar offer.
I have send a mail to the factory asking for details, and if you know more from the numbers above I would be glad to hear from you.
Thanks to Rick for uploading the pictures. I will have some now ones taken i a week or so, with a better camera and proper lightning.
