Holton 6/4 rusk cut?

Does anyone know anything about the Rusk cut 6/4 at dillons? Deeply considering a road trip to test this big horn that is priced right.

But only because it might not be there when you get there. I really liked that thing a lot today when I was trying some stuff out. Not 6/4, though. This was a 5/4 tuba, I'd say (not that I really know what any of that means, really...). They do have a really, really nice huge cut Holton there, though. Great playing horn, but I don't really take big-guns gigs anymore, so I'll let you buy that one.

That horn was at the tuba conference last week. Seemed pretty typical to me. If you go out and play it expect a slighty tight low end (when 5th valve is used) and a less than great 5th valve linkage mechanism. The throw on that thing is a monster. Give Matt a call and see what he says about options to make the throw a little more realistic. My delicate lady-like right hand took a pounding on that horn.

Are you confusing the posted 6/4 tuba with the 4/4 one shown below?

This tuba is a 4/4. The one the OP listed looks to me like a 6/4 345 with a different valve section. I have one of these and it is very large indeed.

Dillon has one larger than the silver one? That would be very cool, indeed…

Hm. Busted. I had the 4/4 on the brain last night. Started seeing it in places when it wasn't really there. Honestly almost walked out with it yesterday.

If Matt Walters says it's a Rusk-cut tuba I'm sure it is, but the cuts of the bows are not typical Rusk to my eye at least. All the big Rusk cut tubas I've seen have been rather top-heavy in the body.

The 5th is trademark Rusk...
Has anyone else seen Rusk-cut tubas with these cuts?
