Chorales from Orchestral Lit

i am toying with the idea of putting together a weekly meeting with the trombones at my school. it will be largely dedicated to sound development, pitch, and blend. lots of legato playing a long notes... we'll do some slow scale exercises and then some simple chorales.. maybe some en mass bordogni...

what i'd like from you folks is a list of low brass chorales from the orchestra lit.. slow sustained passages that need a lot of relaxed practice and serious internal counting. I don't care of it's supposed to be loud, we'll aim to keep it down. they can be really short... but just off the top of my head i'm thinking of

Lohengrin prelude
Wodin's death and firemagic (or however you translate that) from die walkurie

there are loads more, and it would be helpful if they're on the cherry classics cd.. anyway..

i should add in that i am the lone tuba at our conservatory and i hope to play with as many of these as possible.

I would add the 2nd movement Chorale from Bruckner 7, though it's for 4 Wagner tuben and contrabass tuba.

Mahler 7 middle section of the 1st movement. Great bass bone part.

Not exactly orchestra repertoire, but certainly chorales suited for honing section skills for 3 trombone plus tuba. I have edited 25+ chorales, which differ in tonal approach from most Anglo-Saxon chorales, as they are Danish and Norwegian covering Renaissance through Romanticism. Rhythms are dances through ballads and romances.

The trombones cover the SAT lines. The tubist may play the 8´ bass or the 16' contrabass lines depending on the instrument chosen. My editing has been about transposing the original settings so that the top line never exceeds the 3rd space C in the treble clef. Notation is in treble clef C, treble clef Bb (soprano and tenor), Eb, BBb, and bass clef concert (bass and contrabass). There are some less common keys.

You will find playing scores allowing for all combinations of brasses, woodwinds, and strings plus organ and guitars.

There has been asked about my chorale editions. Since the above posting the number has increased to about 70 chorales from 6 or 7 countries. Notation now also in the alto and tenot clefs. As the result of an actual demand there even are compatible parts for G-bugles with at least 3 valves.
