I was kind of surprised to see that the majority is CC. I guess I'll have to get one to see what the fascination is!

Ditto here.Michael Grant wrote:My answer could be different if I owned something than my Willson E-flat.
But this survey is meaningless unless one also asks "What kind of playing do you do?" The bulk of my playing is in quintet, Eb bass in brass band and 1st tuba in a tuba ensemble. I own some nice BBb and CC instruments, but almost never have an occasion where they're more suitable than the Willson.

Just to say that our local community band is now 100% CC tuba. We think for a amature group that is pretty impresive. First time any of the three of us have played in a all CC section since college.

Bump for Wade...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I'm concentrating on BBb until I get it "down". I have an Eb but am going to sell it.
What kind of horn is in the key of "Other"? Is that one of Bloke's 'special creations'?

Since I have only one (playable) tuba, CC for me, PT-6. I have an Eb sousie, but it's just for decoration.

My wife keeps telling me to sell the F - the tuba that she usually sees actually leaving the house several days a week is the big CC. (VW concerto in two months will be the exception.)
Ironically, shortly after repurchasing a bass trombone, it is the small bore (.485/500) tenor that is going out of the house more often.

There's the horn you buy because you want it....and the horn you play for $$ to pay for it.MartyNeilan wrote:My wife keeps telling me to sell the F - the tuba that she usually sees actually leaving the house several days a week is the big CC. (VW concerto in two months will be the exception.)

I voted BBb Sousaphone, but my CC Yamaha 621 (extended to BBb) is a very close second. I use that one for most rehearsals and small club gigs. The fiberglass Olds (as shown in my picture) has been played in 13 countries (on 5 continents) and probably has more "hours on the clock." It does have more stickers on it... http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomashawk/2871753209/

At present, out the house most my Neptune CC and practising most on my PT-15 until I have F fingering up to speed.
It does vary according to time of year and what sort of gigs I have on.

Re: What tuba do you play on the MOST?
If I had a choice, I'd be honkin' away on my trusty rusty Miraphone 184 BBb; however, being a freshman in college, I'm spending all my time on a school-owned Meinl-Weston to master the CC tuning. I like the CC tuning better-- it's a little nimbler and the fingerings for certain key signatures are a little less nasty-- but the horn itself is a piece. *sigh*
