Re: Arban Complete Method - 3d Edition?
Cover icons are too small to tell much. The one I got from Encore is 333 (-15 intro =318) pages compared to 347 (-10=337) pages in my ancient copy of the cornet book ($3.50). A lot of the stuff between the covers is the same, except that the Encore version is transposed to lay for CC tuba fingering. The last pages is different. . . More complex in the new CC tuba book. What key horn does yours address?

it's the same overall. Wes moved to the current cover a little while ago and is using it on pretty much every book he publishes now, as far as I can tell. There might be a few note corrections in the later editions. The most significant from the 1st to the 2nd was the non-edited versions of the characteristic studies--the later versions carry exact versions from the original tpt, the earlier include some editings for breathing, etc.

If I remember correctly, the trumpet and the trombone versions of this book include the Carnival of Venice, but my recently purchased tuba version does not include it. Why is that?

If they are fixing page turns, then they are simply removing a turn that might be in the middle of an exercise. By doing this they have to stretch out the material on the pages to fit better, resulting in a few more pages to be in the book. Ultimately, the second edition should be just fine, unless you find some turns that drive you crazy.

Well, it wouldn't -- what it might do is make it more pages than it was before (which, if it eliminates an awkward page turn, was probably *fewer* pages than it needed to be).TubaGuy753 wrote:That does make sense, but I'm not seeing how fixing a page turn will make it be more pages than it needs to?tubaguy055 wrote:If they are fixing page turns, then they are simply removing a turn that might be in the middle of an exercise. Yes, Mine says 3rd edition inside the cover.
Page 299 in my old cornet book (last of the 14 chromatic studies) corresponds to page 333 in the (excellent, very well-transcribed and bound) Encore version. The new tuba book stops just before the twelve "Celebrated Fantaisies and Airs Varies" that ended the old cornet book. Because of the nature of those, it's probably better that they're transposed to lay well for each tuba key fingerings anyway.

As to the effect on page number of eliminating page turns, there are many extra pages in my Bordogni book (Can I say I copied them without being prosecuted?). I'd say 10-15% increase in number is doing a pretty good job.
