Red Cedar Festival of Community Bands

Post by Kevin Hendrick »

This year's Red Cedar Festival is being held in Okemos, Michigan (near Lansing) on February 28th, 2009 (yes, that's tomorrow -- sorry 'bout the short notice! I'll do better next year).

The Annual Red Cedar Festival of Community Bands is a one day event that brings together adult community bands from across the state of Michigan and Ontario. The event is hosted by the Meridian Community Band.

Education is the emphasis of the Festival. Four nationally recognized clinicians critically evaluate each band's forty-minute public concert. Following the performance each band will receive a thirty-minute educational clinic with one of the clinicians. Musicians and conductors alike agree that this has been a very useful tool for improving musicianship and performance techniques.

Instrumental master classes, taught by university-level specialists, are offered as a supplement to the ensemble clinic.
