....... and realized the receiver was probably changed by someone and the leadpipe was raised up about 4" too high, by a previous owner. After a little oiling and greasing, it got better.

Here is a pic. The tuba is a looker, a player and the "Tinker" did a great overhaul job! This tuba is going to be a real money maker too. Oh, those poor AK trombones--they were already scared of my little Jupiter 378, this horn is going to make them soil their lederhosen.



The kapellmeister is going to love it!

I can only say I am glad to hear the good report. The only St Pete I have played was a few years ago, and it was stuffy. Then, I got my 186 with the retrofit St Pete upright detachable bell to go with the stock recording bell, and I am also very pleased with the change in tone. I am glad to read another person relate that the tone out of the bell looks towards Alex. Mine also takes on some of that broad Alex character, and I can extrapolate that if just a bell change made that much difference in my horn from a stock Miraphone, either the old 16 1/2 stovepipe bell or the new 17 3/4 American flare bell, then yes, as tweaked, it must be a very fine tuba indeed.

I may be mistaken but I think all of the 201 and 202 St. Petes had/have a .840" bore. I've had six of them through here in the last two years and all have been very resonant and good playing. None 'stuffy'. There must have been some leaks in the one you played... or maybe something inside the horn.

I don't know. It was a few years ago. The tuba was in the shop where I had mine at the time for a couple of minor issues. He had just gotten done giving it the ultrasound bath, going completely through it and fitting new bumpers, etc., so it was as clean or cleaner than a brand new one.

I'm just glad the new ones seem to be doing better.
