portable [battery powered] stand lights

I have seen various players using those battery powered stand lights for those spaces that there just isn't adequate lighting. I try to check out their music when lit, looking for enough brightness, evenness of diffusion, area of coverage, how well it attaches, does it get in the way, etc. I have never seen one that satisfies all my needs, and the owners of them are seemingly not quite happy either. So, my question is: Is there nothing available or, have I just never found it? Recommendations by brand and model are much appreciated!

The VERY BEST rechargeable battery powered stand light ever made (IMHO) is the LampCraft 'ConcertLight II'. Unfortunately, LampCraft stopped making it a while back. I have two of them and never leave for a gig without AT LEAST one of them. They have seven-hour batteries. LampCraft has a new lamp I've been wanting to try. It's an led lamp powered by conventional disposable batteries. Buy one and let me know it does.

I like the Maestro light because it is not rechargeable. Just pop in 3 AAA's and you are ready to go again. They last about 4 hours continuous use.

I have had the LampCraft LED lamp for a few years, and I can say it's great. They do have another model out now that's the same thing only brighter. I use disposable alkaline AA cells (it takes four), and it lasts for many sessions. If I were to use it more, I would use rechargable Ni-MH AA cells. However, if you don't use the light a lot, it's a nuisance to keep those Ni-MH cells charged -- you need to top up the charge every week.

Thanks for the recommendation on the LampCraft line. They brought out a GigLite and SuperGigLite, which supercedes Tinker's old onr.

Very interesting comparison of candle power, etc.
A bit pricey is the Super at $69 [$79 with AC adapter], but it sounds like a quality product.

I use the ConcertLight on my practice stand at home, and it's great once it has warmed up for a minute or two. The original GigLight works OK, but the SuperGigLight is fantastic. I didn't purchase mine with an AC adapter so it only gets used on rare occasions like Tuba Christmas when the lighting isn't adequate for my myopic-presbyopic eyes. I had occasion to use the SuperGigLight twice this last holiday season and it was...super! I did use my ConcertLight on battery a couple of weeks ago while our local electric utility swapped out my 8-townhome local neighborhood's undersized transformer out back for one with three times the capacity. My power comes directly off the transformer so the slight dimming of lights when my heat pump kicked on didn't bother me, but those at the end of the distribution were apparently suffering with severe voltage drops.

I've been pretty happy with the Mighty Bright LED light (with 3 LEDs) which has a telescoping arm that also swivels. Runs on 3 AAA batteries. I just wish there were maybe 5 or 6 LEDs instead of 3. If folds up nicely for storage in your horn case.

I've been using a lampcraft giglight for a couple of years now. The 4 AA batteries last a long time, and it's plenty bright. I've also borrowed a Concertlight, and it has a wider beam, but it's huge, heavy, and relies on expensive rechargable batteries that will eventually need to be replaced. The Giglight is very small and light, and I have enough heavy metal to carry- I don't need to add to the load!

I've heard about the new even brighter version, but the original is just fine for me. Concord music supply discounts these a bit-

And a testimonial to Lampcraft's customer service. When a trumpet player stepped on my light after a rehearsal, the clamp that holds it to the stand broke. An email to lampcraft asking about a replacement led to a FREE replacement clamp in the mail the next day. Gotta love these people.

I would suggest the Mighty Bright "Double-Flex" 85640, two times two leds, 3AAA batteries. Works great

I played with a symphony orchestra that actually used those for concerts. This was the Guam Symphony Orchestra (on the island of Guam, an American territory in the Western Pacific Ocean). We got to use them once, when we were playing the Brahms German Requiem. We were playing the first three minutes of the piece when suddenly there was an island-wide blackout. That was about 8:30 pm Saturday night. The power didn't come back on until 6:30 am Sunday morning.

I usually use 2 or 3 of these cheap "robot" lights. They usually cost about $1-3 each. They take AA batteries and you can clip them to the folder or the stand. They work good enough (especially if you have 3) and the price is right.

Exactly like this, but purchased at discounters for much less.

I used a ConcertLight for some time. I now have the new SuperGigLight and it is better, cheaper and uses regular old batteries.
