Ophicleide sighting in Sydney, Australia

Post by deebee »

I saw (and heard) a terrific ophicleide performance last week – Nick Byrne playing the 1st movement of Simon Proctor's newly-written concerto (in piano reduction, accompanied by David Miller). It was at a lunchtime lower brass student recital at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music; I guess Mr Byrne must have snuck in while nobody was watching. :)

An absolute treat! An entirely convincing performance in every regard. Catch him if he's performing anywhere near you!

(Disclaimer: I've never met or communicated with Nick Byrne.)

Nick is a wonderful Ophicleide player, and a great guy.

He recently released a CD called "Back from Oblivion", which is simply amazing.

His website is http://www.ophicleide.com/
