I saw (and heard) a terrific ophicleide performance last week – Nick Byrne playing the 1st movement of Simon Proctor's newly-written concerto (in piano reduction, accompanied by David Miller). It was at a lunchtime lower brass
student recital at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music; I guess Mr Byrne must have snuck in while nobody was watching.
An absolute treat! An entirely convincing performance in every regard. Catch him if he's performing anywhere near you!
(Disclaimer: I've never met or communicated with Nick Byrne.)
