Tuba Exchange brand tubas
Where are the Tuba Exchange brand of tubas made? I am looking to pick up an inexpensive CC Tuba and was wanting to know more about the TE 410-5 model horn. It looks to me to be a copy of a Miraphone 186 CC Tuba.

I believe the "Tuba Exchange" brand tubas are Chinese-made.

Indeed. Like a real 186. When I got mine, Vince, of course, tried to sell me a St Pete for @$3000, as you would expect him to do. I got the 186 with the detachable bell retrofitted with a St Pete upright bell and got him to send along the recording bell just for fun for $1950. But that was then. Prices are higher all around now. The wider throat to rim geometry of the retrofit bell gives my 186 a darker, looking towards Alex just slightly smaller sound, but very satisfying, especially in a good section of several players in a larger concert band, or with a good quintet. It's a little dark by itself when using a deep mouthpiece like my Curry 128D, but brightens up and knits the rest of the mid & low brass together quite well with a PT34, and also sounds better outdoors, as it helps with reinforcing a few more higher overtones necessary for carry.tuben wrote:Seems to me that for $3,600 you could find a similar, excellent USED tuba.goodsn4 wrote:Where are the Tuba Exchange brand of tubas made? The couple of St. Pete I have tried have impressed with their sound - have the tone of a bigger tuba than they actually are. But I have not thought so much of their valves (noisy!), so certainly try before buying.

The Miraphone TE-191A listed by Tuba Exchange is said to be made by Miraphone of lighter, ("more responsive"?) metal than M's standard 191. TE also lists a TE-1915 prototype that might be made in China. I'm really interested in these horns, but I'm concerned that they're not "real"? Miraphones.

I bought a used St. Pete there a few months ago.
