YUP another Nirschl question

Post by Jarrad-Bittner »

What is the difference between the 4/4 nirschl made now and the perantucci model Nirschl? Or is there?

I have not been able to find any reference to the Perantucci model, but the horn you're probably asking about (Ben Pierce's MWN-15), was made several years ago. According to my sources, this model is still made, although they do not list it on their website. The only models they currently advertise are the MWN-8, a direct copy of the CSO York (6/4) and the MWN-7, a scaled down version of the same (large 4/4).

There are probably not a lot of differences between the 15 and the 7. Both have a 19" bell. Although Walter Nirschl has now lent his name and expertise to a line of student-level tubas made in India, I am reliably informed that the 15 is not one of those, and in fact the student tubas are marketed under the brand "W.Nirschl".

To add to the speculation, I would guess the OP is referring to the Nirschl 4/4 C listed on Mr Tucci's site. These are indeed marked "Perantucci". I believe this partnership occurred after Mr Nirschl finished working with Besson but that may not be the case. I certainly don't know whether Mr Nirschl is still building tubas marked 'Perantucci' now.

Mr Nirschl has built basically the same 4/4 C tuba for quite a while now. The name may change a little but the tubas are basically the same - I'm talking about the mini-Yorks with the 5th after the main slide. Having said that, some are handmade (hand-hammered bows/bell?) whilst others are machine made. This Perantucci is priced as a machine-made model I would say.
