Anthology of Tuba Band Excerpts

I am interested in beginning a project for school involving band excerpts.

Does anyone know...are there any anthologies of the standard band excerpts used for tuba, such as the many orchestral excerpt collections?

Not that I have found. I know that Skip Gray at UK has a extensive volume for Educational Purposes as I'm sure that most professors have for their students. He would be someone to start with just to get a list going. I think that it would be great to poll a couple of the big-dogs in the military bands or college band directors and pick their brains on the subject matter.

I think that one of the issues that has come into play with band lit is the Public Domain. Since most wind band music and symphonic transcriptions are newer than orchestral lit, there isn't as much in the PD; certainly not enough of high demand pieces to sell an anthology. If there were even a list compiled - I would be interested in seeing it.

I know there's a list compiled by a UNC doctoral candidate a few years ago that I came across in some of my research. It lists the top ten tuba excerpts for band.

I don't have an interest in making lots of money, I'm just a student who wishes there was a common set of excerpts I could buy in one place anywhere I am and have all the top excerpts at my disposal for playing auditions...Thanks for the input

When I was in college, and arguably had the most free time I will have ever had in my life to practice, etc.. etc.. I raided my schools' music libraries and copied every darn part I could. Orchestral and band! It took quite some time, but I was able to make multiple volumes of full part for myself to study. The band parts proved to be quite handy when taking auditions as most people seemed to have difficulty finding them. There was rarely a surprise when it came to "sight reading".

Yes, I know there are ramifications to copying parts, and I'm not suggesting that one follow suit or distribute them. I only used these parts as a study aid, and preparation materials for auditions. However, if you are in college, have access to a music library, and are so inclined... who's stopping you?

I often tell my students and any college student who will listen... you will never, ever have more free time on your hands than you do now. Use it wisely... Nothing in life compares to being a relatively care-free college student who's got time to practice, the occasional party (uh huh... yeah.. occasional...), attend concerts, and get together with friends to knock down walls with exceprts at 3 in the morning after partying!

(I didn't mean that to come off like a soap box reply) I'm sure someone will put me in my little tubenet cyber place..
