Steve was a great colleague and friend, he will be missed.

My heart goes out to his wife, parents and his brother.

I heard Mr. Witser when I was a youngster and he was playing here in Cleveland. I heard him play many times. He'll be missed.
I'm sorry for you and your colleagues, Mr. Pearson.

This is truly a loss, for his family, the Philharmonic, Los Angeles and the entire music community. My prayers go out to his family.

I am shocked and saddened by this news, and extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr Witser.

When much younger, I was extremely fortunate to enjoy the opportunity to play several different concerts with the Phoenix Symphony while he was still there. His playing and leadership made a strong and lasting impression on me, and I have followed his career path since that time with great interest -- particularly his work with the Center City quintet.

I have often held his playing up as an example to my students of "what it should sound like."

A true loss to the music world.
