Getzen Contrabass G Bugle possibilities...

Alrighty, so I have an older Getzen Contrabass G Marching Bugle ("Baby" contra) with a one piston/one rotary setup. I can either:

A) Turn into a wall/floor/whatever decoration
B) Sell it for lunch money
C) Master the art of playing nothing but false tones
D) You decide?? Maybe convert it to a really small...uh...something

Anyways, let me know your ideas or if you're interested in buying...I'll get a picture up soon.

I used to own one of those.I thnik you gonna be surprised had how easy it is to play and how much fun it is. It actually has a really nice sound. Getzen really knew their %$#@ when they built these.

I have advocated hose bugles with discarded brass bell for the very young kids interested in brass playing, but at least one poster here countered by saying that kids want real instruments.

Wouldn’t this instrument fit well in there?

Mount it on a secure stand and let a kid make sounds on it.

Sorry for misleading some. Yes, it's the "Baby" Contrabass bugle. A decent sound can come out of it...but I was just wondering the possibilities

I converted one of these into a 4p front action BBb once with some success (for fun/practice). The guts were missing but the body was in good shape. If I remember correctly, the cutting/removing of tubing needed to fit the new cluster basically brought it close to Bb. It was OK for a very small BBb. I used it in a small brass band for a while. I eventually used it for parts.

I have one which I'd gladly sell to you. Then take them both to a reputable techie and have them welded together somehow. One over each shoulder for a stereo effect. Or one forward, one rearward for better coverage... interesting possibilities...

there were some great pix on tubenet previously of someone who had made a pond fountain out of an old tuba (Tinker?) and a mailbox (bloke?) just some ideas if you decide to not use it for musical purposes.

A few years back I had Harvey Hartman make a decent three valved 3/4 size tuba by grafting an old valve set from an Olds fiberglass sousaphone onto a the body of an old Olds contrabass bugle and it played pretty well for a young student.

I too struggled with the question of what to do with one one these. After much experimentation I decided to bring it to my roof and with nany of its brothers fix it with stainless binding wire to a TV antena base where it stayed for 15 years..


Still plays the same!!!
