My roof just flew off

My new horn arrived. Thought I'd post a pretty picture.

I knew this horn was a new "Scratch and Dent", but wasn't expecting this:

...and the gig bag is too small... :?

This horn is amazing! The name says it all.

Very nice! Pardon my ignorance, but what kind of horn is that?

Well at least you do not have to worry about getting your first dent....

looks great, enjoy!

I'm sure, that if it starts bothering you, any good tech can "hammer" out the dent.

After reading the recent post about dropping tubas, I thought that this posting would be another tale of woe. After looking at the pics of your new horn, I now understand your problem (or exhilaration, as the case may be). It would be nice if my roof could blow off too! :tuba:

So, I decided to scrounge up a Thor case (much like Bloke did). I got one of those used King marching whatchamajiggers cases, but I found the interior of said case was bad on the opposite of the bell side (got a hefty refund for that  ). So I tore it out. I went to Joann fabric and got the fake fur fabric or whatever the stuff is actually called.

I was fortunate to find that a friend was throwing out their couch/chair/bed/foam thing:

 These are great for foam for tuba cases- I figured that since I took it all apart, I might as well make it a proper fit.

And this is what I ended up with:

Not a bad deal.

I also got a set of those Bloke-Bumpers and fitted a set of guards to keep finger prints off and keep the silver from wearing away at contact points.

Nice horn kevin!
You might want to invest in a bag though- the Fine Arts Building elevators get really crowded on sundays and the operators get cranky at people with large cases (aka they are crazy). Also, if there is some sort of event going on in the loop it can be quite a hassle to wheel one of those suckers down Michigan Ave. Are you bringing it to NHSMI?

Yessir, I'll have this at NHSMI and maybe my Meinl 45 F (depending on how much living space I have... I probably should look into that).

My Thor in a gig-bag in Chicago with all them revolving doors... if I have to :?
