Emergency Cork Replacement (2141 Eb)

Post by mdc2d »

So I was giving the 2141 a bath on Sunday, when I took the valves a part the corks on valves 1 & 3 completely fell a part in my hands. Just wondering if anyone has ever used anything from Home Depot or Lowe's as a replacement for a temporary fix... I got a gig on Friday and it will be difficult to get it to a repair shop before then.

Thanks!

You could use an Xacto knife or razor blade to trim one of these:

Look around anywhere that sells picture frames and you should be able to find smaller versions of those for sticking on the backs of picture frames to keep them from moving around.

in the past, I have gotten a cork bottle stopper (they have them in various sizes). I cut the bigger end so it fits snugly into the hole, then cut the other end so it aligns with the spit valve properly...come to think of it, that's still on my Martin (has been like that for close to a year now)

How could I easily check my valve aligment? I have a pen light and a telescoping mirror, but if the mirror has to get inside a slide or casing, its too large...

Thanks!

Thanks lgb--Im gonna buy some tonight to keep as spares--One of my bumpers fell out right in the middle of a brass band rehearsal and ended up using a very small wad of paper to get thru the rest of the rehearsal--NOT a pretty scene so will be better prepared next time!
