' pretty political comment, and reflective of your views developed and nurtured in your socio-regional and educational upbringing.
- I live in your state.
- I don't frequent bars.
- I don't plan to frequent bars.
- I don't frequent restaurants where "drinking alcohol" is a main feature of the establishments or where a full seated bar (with TV screens, etc.) is featured.
- An alarming number of people who frequent bars and drink hide weapons on their persons WITHOUT being legally permitted to do so.
- Due to changes in laws decades ago, a higher percentage of chronically angry/violent people walk the streets today than ever before.
- The new law specifically requires that: a/ Only permitted carriers of weapons may take them into bars and restaurants. b/ They will be breaking the law if they drink any alcohol. c/ Individual bar and restaurant owners may specifically prohibit weapons from their establishments, and ignoring these posted rules is a violation of the law.
- There definitely IS a problem with drunks brandishing weapons at bars - particularly OUTSIDE bars in parking lots.
- It is a
GOOD THING that
SOBER,
PERMITTED carriers will be legally permitted -
in dire circumstances where safely fleeing is not possible - to defend themselves from armed aggressors and/or robbers at these locations.
- As a musician who occasionally plays at establishments that serve alcohol in Tennessee, there are locations where I would feel much more comfortable (particularly in the parking lot) being armed with a handgun. However, I usually turn down jobs at establishments where any trouble is likely to occur because a/ I generally avoid potential trouble. b/ Most jobs at establishments such as this do not pay enough to be worth my while.
- It simply is NOT realistic nor sensible for law-abiding citizens to try to interact with society the same way law-abiding citizens interacted with society over forty years ago in a society that bears no resemblance to the type of society that existed in America over forty years ago.
Of course, all of the big-city newspapers in Tennessee have flooded their front sections with "articles" (ie: "columns/editorials") heavily slanted against this legislation, because the editors of these papers (along with their hires) reflect socio-regional and educational upbringing similar to yours.
fwiw, I am in possession of a Tennessee permit to carry a handgun. I scored 100% both on the written and marksmanship tests. To date, I have not used that permit. I avoid going places where I believe it would be needed.
