I got tired of waiting for a 4V version of the Conn 20i short-action euphonium so I took a few days and built one. Three donor Conn 20i euphs went into the project. This will become my 'old man' horn when I'm just too tired to lug around a tuba!

Sorry, Mary Ann.... it's not for sale. .. At least not yet. Horns like this come about because guys like me and Bloke have lots of parts and waaay too much time on our hands!... or maybe it's just a sheer lack of good common sense!

Hi, Dan...
Though the craftsmanship is beyond superb, I must inform you that you will soon decide that you don't need this instrument any more.

You will discover this around mid-August when "Snorlax" drives his son back to school & stops by to say hello to you.

You will also discover at that time that you have a compensating Marzan that you don't want.

Just thought I'd tell you this in advance.

This one appears to be a Conn 25i.... four pistons but NOT a short-action. Conn did make a 4V version of the 20i (would be a 22i) but only for a couple of years.

If you haven't been to Dan's site, you should follow the links in the first post and look around. You'll find that this is a guy who seriously loves tubas. It's a sickness, no cure.

You fixing guys never cease to astound me. "Well, i had pieces of a no-name tuba hanging around, so i combined them with the headpiece of a piccolo, an old fridge i had downstairs, floats from a '62 MG carburetor, my neighbor's cat, a derelict washing machine, and my wife's microwave. Now it's within a cent over 6 octaves, sounds like angelic choirs, i can blow the roof off the civic center if i choose or lull my daughter to sleep at night." And you're not exagerating. Where are y'all when the chinese are trying to build horns? We wouldn't have to discuss schillaphones or schillbrunners, they could go by their own names like Happy Sun or whatever. "And the microwave? Why, during looooong rests at a concert, that's for preparing a warm snack." Totally amazing.
