TUBA at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO

Post by jjelwood »

I went to a performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Starlight last Thursday. I really enjoyed the music and especially the use of the tuba in the score. The tuba/bass player was Arthur Gottleib. I think he played a B&S PT-3P from the looks of it, but don't know for sure. I have been to many musicals at Starlight and the tuba isn't used often. The last time Chicago was here Scott Watson played which was great!

Thanks for saying nice things about me.....
I actually play a PT20P. I was just on the road touring through, and that is one of the most beautiful places we've played.
Peace.

wow...they're TOURING with a full orchestra? or, at least enough of one to take a doubler? Wish I'd known, Arnold, I'da bought you a beverage somewhere.

Actually we just finished our tour in KC. But yes, I played Tuba, Upright and electric bass, and our trombone player doubled euphonium. I'll be glad to take that drink here in NY......
Peace.

My sister lived just south of K.C., MO for quite a few years (school teacher...We have strong family connections in Kansas...Even moi worked at KU for a year as the "tuba guy" before I decided it wasn't for me). One summer (me, a punky teenager) I saved up $40 (r/t ticket) and flew there on Braniff Airlines to visit with her for several days. She took me to the Starlight to see Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé do a show. I wasn't as impressed with them as I was (again, as Arnold just remarked) the venue. It's inside a huge park (w/zoo, etc...??) called Swope Park.

Good on ya, Arnold! I hope you made it home with most o' yer winnings.
Thanks Bloke. Due in some part to the influence of folks like you, I made it home with most of my winnings. Also, without any debt whatsoever, til I start house huntin' that is.
Peace.
