Anyone going to the LBGA meeting in New Orleans?

I just wanted to see if there were any of our community going to the LGBA conference in New Orelans, next month. Unfortunately, I will not be going because of my deafness (it's hard enough on my local band). Let me hear from you, OK?

So are bands that go made up of gay and lesbian folks or do they form bands at the conference?

There is a gay mens choir here in Atlanta and they are really good, I've played for them before, we actually played the Rutter Gloria with just men.

Apparently there is also a band here in Atlanta, the Atlanta Freedom Bands.

Tuba dork; yes, the members that go to the conference do form a larger performing band for one concert at the end of the conference. I have only been to 2 of them (many years ago) and we had a band of 125 at one venue and 250 at another. The music is always challenging and well received. Whether you are gay, straight or otherwise, you are always welcome to play with one of the bands. The Atlanta Band has sent representatives to our location in Ft Lauderdale and played with us. In fact, Dr Alfred Reed conducted his last major concert with the LGBA band; comprised of 185 members (10 tubas). When we finished 'Russian Christmas,' there was a tremedous ovation from a sold out center (SRO). We have played in the Hollywood Bowl, San Fransisco's Symphony Hall, The Los Angeles Coliseum and several other well regarded venues. The Hollywood bowl band was close to 350 and we had Rita Moreno and her stage band as our guests. 22 tubas in that accoustially sensitive bowl was overwhelming!
