Please help identify this Eb Sousaphone

Greetings Gentlemen,
Saved this orphan from an American Legion dumpster ( imagine that ). Lovingly restored by Frank Devito of Norwalk , Ct . Back of bell is "stenciled " Century . Silver and gold over brass . Any ideas ? I don’t know whether I have commented on this instrument previously, but we have had something similar up recently.

I said the architecture was like the one of a Conn 26K, but that the bore of the large bows was too lean for a Conn.

The elephant said that it was a Pan American (which was Conn’s second/student line).

I see a discrepancy between the gold wash and the instrument likely being from less than a top line, but then the gold may have been added by the restorer.

I don't have any pics of my junk Ebs (long recycled) but one was Conn, one Pan Am, and this doesn't have the same look, aside from the false tube at the bell.

The bracing is different, even, but the wrap is similar. How about Buescher?

Hi there,

I would bet that yours is a Pan-American, as I have one that is exactly like it (also with the gold-wash bell, btw) and clearly engraved 'Pan-American' on the backside of the bell.

Congrats on acquiring a nice playing relatively light sousy for a song!
