Portrait of Tubas at Tanglewood

Post by enewberger »

Dear friends,
Not too many contemporary artists paint pictures of tuba players, but there's a marvelous new tuba watercolor now on the Internet. It's a lovely portrait of Mike Roylance's B.U.T.I. (Boston University Tanglewood Institute) students, playing in a barn in July. I'm at the piano, giving a workshop on jazz improvising.

The watercolor artist, I'm proud to say, is my wife, Carolyn Newberger. She's got several talents, as you can see elsewhere on her website, that also includes her TV debut on the Password Show with the actor Wally Cox in 1965, and some fine writings on children, parents, and life. In her musician guise, she plays the part of Peepo the Piccolo in the Cupcake Philharmonic Orchestra's version of Tubby the Tuba, featuring Mike's gorgeous Tubby solos.
