A friend recently gave me a cornet that was in pristine condition for free. (How dare I mention the C word here!)
I cleaned it up, sounded brilliant, not a single dint, ding or blemish ( it was a Besson 600) so I decided I'd try and sell it.
I took it to my bandroom to ask them to value it, so they opened it up and right under the main tuning slide is STAMPED THE NAME OF THE BAND!
Turned out it should have been given back in '92. ¬_¬
I cussed.

Just a side note here.... How many of you would know the serial numbers of your horns if the horns were stolen today? I record the serial number of every horn that comes through my shop. I can spot a duplicate number within the first few minutes I have it here. I've had instances where I've seen the same number two or three times with different owners.
If you don't know the serial number of your horn... take a look... jot it down... and store the number is a place where you will know to look if your horn ever comes up missing.

Sage advice worth repeating. I have my son's cornet and my Dad's trumpet numbers memorized, and all the other numbers recorded in a safe place.TubaTinker wrote:Just a side note here....
