Master's (in music) after a non-music bachelors?!
Is it generally (always? never?) required to have a Bachelor's degree in music to begin a Master's degree in music (for example, the tuba!
)? Assuming, of course, a satisfactory audition at the school one would be doing the Master's at. Just curious!

generally...yes, it is always required to have a Bachelor degree in music.
There will, of course, be exceptions to this generality. Have a talk with the graduate advisor at <insert name> University to be sure if you're interested.
I can't imagine, though, why such a student (say, for example, one with an engineering degree who played in band in college) would be accepted into a Masters degree program in music without the prerequisite undergraduate work.
Does this happen?

In general, I haven't actually encountered a school that it was required of the MMus students (None of the ones I've attended or have found), though many application processes involve a diagnostic portion for musical skills so you would still be expected to have a similar level of knowledge as someone who had an undergrad in music.
