Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
My original post was not meant as an over the top promotional piece for Bloke. It was a review based on my initial reaction to the holy crap drastic difference in how my horn plays now versus what it was like for the last 5 years. If I came across as over the top to some people... I don't know what to say to you... I personally get very excited when something makes my life way easier like this.

I was at bloke's yesterday and he fitted me with felts for the YFB-822. They are great, so if you have an 822 f-tuba he has the felts. I also bought a blokepiece which I already have high regards for, but that is for another post.

Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
After hours of strenuous and backbreaking labor, I was able to complete the installation of the Blokewashers on my Kalison K2001 6/4 CC tuba today. Zach was right. The Blokewashers make the low register on the K2001 even better. Some people who trialed these horns against similar models by other brands said the low register on the others was a little better. Not any more.
I wish I had these on there when I did Planets about a year ago - talk about the end of Uranus!
**Disclaimer: The Blokewashers have a great feel and will last a long time. However, the majority of the improvement was surely due to improved piston alignment.
I just went upstairs and told my wife how I like the horn even more than before (which was a lot.) Her immediate response was: You Can't Keep It.

Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
I just put new Blokewashers in my Kalison DS, Yamaha 621 and Olds plastic sousaphone (the one in my picture over there -> ) The valve action is MUCH quieter on the Kalison and somewhat quieter on the other horns. The impact feel is very nice - my fingers can feel a significant difference. I don't have a bore-scope to check all valve port alignments, but the ones I can see look to be right on target!
I will be using all of these horns over the next 6 months, I will report how well the pads hold up after that...

Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
I received the synthetic washer set from Bloke in the mail a few days ago and I installed them this evening. I was a little worried at first because there was a clear difference in the thickness between Bloke's washers and the old style cork and felt washers that Robb Stewart installed on the valves several years ago. Robb apparently installed washers that were too thick because the tuba plays MUCH better with Bloke's washers installed. So, what everyone else has said seems to be true! These synthetic washers, cut to exact correct thickness, make a world of difference to the response of the horn. Plus they are actually quieter than the cork and felt washers. Thanks Bloke for taking the time to measure all the various tuba valve sets!!!!!Bandmaster wrote:You should have received my order and payment today! Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
After a few weeks of rehearsals using the new Bloke pads on my YCB-621 (converted to BBb) I find that my high range performance is much more predictable and in pitch, and the bottom end notes are also noticeably "better" - I don't know how much of this is due to the pads, but no other variable I can think of has changed. The valves are also much quieter than before.
All good! I will be ordering some pads for my other horns soon.

Re: Bloke's synthetic felts. HOLY MOLY!!!!!!
My springs and felts arrived today and I put them in. The valves are much quieter and the spring action is very firm. This was a great addition to an old horn. Thanks!
