The most aggressive F tuba?

Post by bububassboner »

If someone asked you what you thought was the most "aggressive" (take that how you want, looking only for opinions) F tuba on the market what horn would you say and why. We talk about aggressive sounding CC tubas but never F tubas. :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba: :tuba:

The one I played today didn't seem that wild, but I played a 45SLP a few months back that could shatter glass below low Bb.

My little King Eb can get illegal on low B natural. I plugged in my PT48 once and even I had to stop soon. Crazy!!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but a horn is a horn. No horn SOUNDS aggressive on its own. The operator MAKES it sound that way.

But certainly, you can concede that some horns are EASIER to play aggressively than others. Perhaps it's a matter of SEMANTICS: Which tuba (in your opinion, right?) allows the operator to MAKE an aggressive sound?

Out of all the F's I've played (rotary or piston) the 822 for me is easiest to sound aggressive. It's so easy to make the low C cook when it really needs to (end of the Corsaire Overture for example) In the higher range (Bear solo for example) It's so easy to make the horn sound aggressive and "roar"

Just my opinion...

My point exactly. I have seen him just about tear the bell of an Alex 163 in person. He is, to me, THE example of aggressive.

bloke agreed that my PT10 has a great low range...but with a blokepiece, I think a 1 rim and 2 cup.... it opened up even more for me! And, his Symphonie was pretty dadgum aggressive-able of itself.
