Lower brass Christmas Carols (video)

My band, the Freckleton Band, from Lancashire in the UK, have a century old tradition of carolling on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day each year. We used to do Christmas morning until around 10 years ago as well, but life seems to have got in the way of that one.

This is Boxing Day morning 2009, Low Brass playing carols to villagers and passers by. We've had the first White Christmas here for decades,and it's very snowy, icy and slippy everywhere due to this country's inability to cope with snow generally, but we still managed to complete the route, with just one casualty. The baritone survived, just not the player's knee!

We only had a couple of cornet players turn out, so we made them do the door to door collecting while we had a low brass group instead. Best use for 'em, I say.

We're just playing from the standard Sally Ann "red" books, no special arrangements, so gets a bit 'muddy'. I quite like it though!

Thank you for posting this Andy. The low brass sound well. It reminds me of many similar happy times with Old Silkstone Band in South Yorkshire. The morning commenced with carols, coffee and bacon cobs delivered to and by the villagers. It wasn’t long before the odd short [to ‘warm one up’ it must be understood] was slipped in. As the day wore on the finesse of the playing fluctuated in direct proportion, more or less, to the reduced intake of comestibles and increase in alcohol. At 4.00pm it all came to a ‘crescendo’ at the Red Lion Inn – great memories!

As much as it pains me to say it - sounds great (even without me - although you could have sped it up a bit) .

The ImperiAl BBb sounds particularly fine - which is also incredibly annoying
