Reynolds Eb tubas - TB-15, TB-16, Model 185, Model 180, etc

Does anyone on Tubenet own one of the old Reynolds detachable bell Eb tubas?

Are they as large as the Conn, York, and King Monster Eb tubas?

I'm curious about the scales of these things. Most monsters have somewhat challenging intonation.

If you have one of these things, I'd like to ask you a bunch of questions via email or PM.

I have a very nice one here at the moment. The overall height is about 50" from the bottom bow to the rim of the recording bell. The bell is 21 1/2" (recording bells tend to be larger in diameter than their upright counterparts). The bore is .688"... same as the King 1240/41/2340/41. The size seems that it would rival that of the King of the same bore. But... the bottom bow and bell stack are quite a bit smaller than the Kings.

This is a full-sized horn in terms of an Eb. But not a large as a 4/4 BBb of similar characteristics. Probably a bit smaller than the other 'monster' Eb horns you mentioned.

This one has the factory 'kicker' on the 1st valve slide. It's for sale.

I LOVED that horn. I thought it sounded great and it was (IMHO) a solid, well-braced and superbly constructed horn. No real intonation issues but predictably a little stuffy once you got below Eb beneath the staff (hey, it's a three-banger) but I loved its sound and playability. I really don't know the "monsters" but I am guessing it is a little more compact.

Sadly, I just didn't need an "eefer" enough to hang on to it so I traded it to Lee Stofer for a King 2341 (which I love and better suits my needs). He might still have it...give him a call.

Oh yeah... it had the first valve kicker, as well.

Jeez, now I'm kinda missing it.

Oh well...I'll just go put in an hour on the 2341 and I'll get over it.
