Tilework for Tuba

Hey all,

I recently heard Tom Johnson's "Tilework for Saxophone" performed. I really enjoyed the piece, conceptually and musically: the performer reads both lines of what appears to be a duet, but when combined they fit together on one instrument, so essentially one performer plays the melody and the bassline. It was awesome.

The girl who played it told me afterwards that Mr. Johnson also wrote "Tilework" pieces for a variety of instruments, including the tuba. Has anybody here played it? What did you think? And where might I find a copy of it?

I haven't personally played it, but I did find some info on the piece. Here it is:

Looks like 10 euros would get you the piece, and there is a pdf on that site that explains the theory of the pieces. Tom Johnson has a number of pieces that can be played by any instrument, including the tuba, (a good example includes Rational Melodies.)

Tubafatness: Thanks for the info. I'm still looking for a distributor in the States that sells it, so's I won't have to pay international shipping rates. Oof.

I've reached a point where I'm going to get rid of the old Saltillo tile in my kitchen. Not only do I hate that tile, I hate ALL tile in kitchens. Last week was the last time that something hopped out of the fridge and shattered into approximately twelve billion tiny glass shards intermixed with was had been a nearly full jar of jelly. So....I'm wanting to do some kind of wood-like thing, either real wood or laminate or "whateveer." Something softer, that will not result in the shards that cause me to see red.

... every darned tile in front of the fridge, the stove, the dishwasher, and the sink have been damaged due to stuff being dropped!

After reading the title, Am I the only one who thought this was going to be an offer to trade some floor fixin' for a playable horn???

Personally, I'm in favor of painted plywood flooring. Re-painting is easier than mopping!
