I have an LP of Harold playing it with his own band.
From the looks, I'd say he was playing a 4 valve King Symphony Bass.

I usually don't do other than the A strain with a 'full' band, but we trade lead in that strain then do it tutti cl/tuba. Not too fast, just halffast. With a smaller group, no cl, I do the whole form, trading w/ the accordian.
