Ouch! Make sure you keep an eye on Craigslist, especially for not-accurate titles (calling the tuba a baritone,....).

Jeff, if you need a trombone, tuba, or baritone for a while email me as I have a few that I rarely use. I am on the north side of Chicago.

Good luck!

Thanks for the offer. My house was also broken into on Jan 4. So apparently they have me marked and there would be little sense in bringing anything valuable back into this environment. Thankfully they left the tubas the first trip, and I removed everything except that which I played on a weekly basis. Not sure what future direction I wil take, an alarm system is in order, but if my house is now marked by criminals, a move may also be in order. I don't know.

After the January break in, I told the police I suspected my neighbors. Police basically let it go. The footprints and tire tracks in the snow clearly show they used my neighbor's house as the staging area. Four mouthpieces were found on the driveway behind that house. It's a rental house. And suddenly, everyone has disappeared.

If you don't know, our current governor has been releasing criminals to save money. As we will all incur losses and higher insurance premiums, I have to question his judgment.

Is none of the above an option?

This is an election year, we'll have a chance to elect someone new. With a $2 billion, no 7, no 9, uh, now they claim it's a $13 billion dollar deficit, with $5 billion in outstanding bills, why would anyone want to be governor?

Well - when you are not serving time in jail -you get to be on reality tv. Blago soon to appear on the Apprentice and of course his bimbo wife was on "I'm a celebrity - get me out of here" last year. Just when you think it can't get any worse... it does.

Jeff - I too will keep an eye out as I live in the area and sometimes go to the local flea markets. This really sucks. Some of your stuff looks pretty unique - like the silver valve trombone and while a 321 is common place - I haven't ever seen a silver one - so hopefully that will help in the recovery.

I'm suspecting that with a musical-instrument-specific heist like this, that they had a fence already set up. Unless they took them just to recycle the metal, which makes me hurt inside.

If it were me....I'd move. I don't know that an alarm system would help; police response typically will take 30 minutes, and unless you have undetectable video, they will be gone before the police get there.

Might be worth hiring a private detective, if you can afford it, since you're pretty sure who took the stuff, but that would cost. Cops don't spend much time on burglaries because no one is killed.

An update:

Some of the guitar electronics showed up at a pawn shop about two weeks ago. An arrest was made, but it is a misdemeanor for possession of stolen goods. Court date is in April.

On Saturday afternoon I visited our local Music Go Round store and discovered 4 instruments taken from my house on the floor at Music Go Round. I notified the detectives working the case, but have not had a response as yet. Perhaps they don't work weekends. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

Jeff, thanks for the update. And thanks for looking for your instruments; I hope that the PD working your case can put something together against the evildoers.

The police did go to Music Go Round, and recovered 10 items, the Conn baritone among the items. The Taylor guitar also. The tuba and the trombones remain at large, as of last week, they were still in the Chicago area, apparently they offered the tuba but the shop was reluctant to bite on such a big item. One employee apparently made a side deal on some instruments. If someone is dumping a $1500 Taylor for $100, guess what, there may be a reason for that.

So again, a silver 4 valve YEB-321 Yamaha tuba remains on the streets somewhere, possibly still in the Chicago area.

Thanks for the kind words and support.
