I did not know Hawkes ever made a front valve BBb. Very interesting!
Would be interesting to see how it plays compared to the usual top valve models

Re: Hawkes Tuba
That's interesting! For the price... someone ought to snatch this one up! Surely it would resell if it doesn't fit your face.

Re: Hawkes Tuba
In my haste to bid on this horn, I didn't notice that Adam asked for local pick up only. (Ah, so that's why none of you guys grabbed it before me!) Fortunately, he was gracious enough to drive a couple of hours towards Reading to meet my father, who has been holding it for me since the auction. I finally got a chance to take a trip up the Eastern Shore (longer, but nicer than highway driving) and pick it up. It plays very well, with a big, full tone. Suprisingly sweet sound in the middle and upper register, too, even a few lines above the staff. If the intonation improves with a valve job and a repair to the main tuning slide this may well become my main axe.
now, anyone want to buy a Daylan Prague in a couple of months?

Mike, I can't believe you haven't picked up a 1291 Bb yet (after spending several months playing one each year)...
Don't forget to get a front action baritone for Finn Jr (along with maybe a MF tenor tuba mp?)!

Oh, I did enjoy playing that 1291. And if I see one with a "Buy it Now" for $400 you can bet I'll be snatching that one up too, local delivery or otherwise!Bob Kolada wrote:Mike, I can't believe you haven't picked up a 1291 Bb yet (after spending several months playing one each year)...Don't forget to get a front action baritone for Finn Jr (along with maybe a MF tenor tuba mp?)!
