Both are pretty good ideas. I played Mascagni's "L'Amico Fritz" on Euph, as the "banda" part was for "bombardino" and the "basso tuba" of his time was nearly microscopic. It worked very well, if historically dubious.

Talking about historically dubious, here's a clip of me playing two nights ago...
Using my pedal board this time with the cimbasso...

The electric sound was nicer in the room...not so muffled, but you'll get the idea, I hope...

It was a lot of fun to play and a great arrangement by Michael Philip Mossman.

I hope you guys enjoy it, I bet Verdi would've too, he he...

Adam Peck wrote:Thanks J.C. Your'e right, that lick makes all the waiting around worthwhile. I don't know if you have found this while playing the cimbasso, but to me the challenge is to get a strong, trombone like sound without getting to the blatty point. It's a fine line..at least for me and this instrument. I can't imagine playing the tuba anymore for these italian operas.
Yes, the 'trombone-like' sound right at the beginning was really nice! It was strong and sounded good. The video shows the cramped working conditions in the pit. Looks so much more comfortable to be playing the cimbasso rather than some sort of slide-o-bone.

Here's another one of mine, Donna Lee this time, in an arrangement by MIchael Philip Mossman.

I'm sorry if I'm being a drag guys and gals, but here's yet another take of the Donna Lee arrangement, live from our studio in Cologne.

I know that I don't have a lot to contribute to the discussion regarding the classical repertoire, sorry!

But I am having a lot of fun with the cimbasso, hehe...I'm very lucky to have the chance to utilize it in this way!

Cheers

Mattis, that is great stuff and you sounds really good on that big ventilbasun...
Are there any other guys around playing cimbasso in your region? IF so, why not Four Brothers for Four Cimbassi and maybe much other music too, Cimbassobuglers Holiday, big band arrangement of Schumann concertstück for 4 cimbassi etc etc?! As you say there is much fun to be had with these nice instruments. :)
