I have tried all the sources of which I can think to find a composition entitled: 3 19th Century settings of the Star-Spangled Banner. Can anyone help me locate it.
Thanks
Does anyone know of this sheet music?

Never heard of this particular piece, but if it is a particular setting you want of that style, I have a couple different versions of the "National Air" from the 19th century, from the band books of the time. PM me if that is the case.jmerring wrote:I have tried all the sources of which I can think to find a composition entitled: 3 19th Century settings of the Star-Spangled Banner. Thank you, very much. The composition I seek, does exist; I have performed it before (many years ago).

Re: Does anyone know of this sheet music?
Could it be this:
Title: Two 19th century views of The Star-Spangled Banner by John Stafford Smith /
Author(s): Smith, John Stafford,; 1750-1836. Butler, John H.; 1932- ; (John Harrison), Gottschalk, Louis Moreau,; 1829-1869. ; Union. Buck, Dudley,; 1839-1909. ; Festival overture.
Publication: New York : Carl Fischer,
Year: 1975
Description: 1 condensed score (7 p.) ; 31 cm.
Standard No: Publisher: N 5919; Carl Fischer
Descriptor: Band music, Arranged -- Scores and parts.
National songs -- United States -- Instrumental settings.
Note(s): For band./ Excerpted from Gottschalk's piano work L'Union and Buck's Festival overture./ Notes by arranger in English on t.p. verso.
Responsibility: Louis Moreau Gottschalk & Dudley Buck ; transcribed by John H. Butler.
It looks like it was once published by Carl Fisher, but I did not see it for sale on their site.
Only one library, The University of North Texas, has it listed in WorldCat as part of their collection.
There is a reference to it on the Yale Concert Band page at http://www.yale.edu/Yaleband/ycb/star_s ... anner.html" target="_blank" target="_blank , and the Chicago Public Library also supposedly has a copy http://www.chipublib.org/search/details/cn/234369" target="_blank" target="_blank

Re: Does anyone know of this sheet music?
If you have the time, you can go here and download a bunch of the earlier versions of the Star-Spangled Banner:
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/cwmhtml/
You could then make your own versions for quintet. I have wanted to do this forever, but just have not found the time. I have played a bunch of them in Civil Brass Bands. It is quite fun and educational to see how the Banner developed over time...
Good luck,

Re: Does anyone know of this sheet music?
Thank you, guys. I am certain that you are right about it being 2 treatments of the SSB..not 3, as I had remembered.
