Harv and I made this together. Sergio is really happy with it and he sounds great on it.
For those of you haven't seen it, here's Sergio playing it for the first time.

Re: Sergio Caroline With His Lusophone
that looks very promising. What key is this instrument in?
Would like to hear something from that band also.

The instrument is in CC with 5 valves (4 piston + 1 rotary). Gerd, Check your messages, I'll send you an mp3 of the band. They will release a CD soon.tubajazzo wrote:that looks very promising. What key is this instrument in?

That's pretty neat. It'd be cool to have one made out of a three banger small Eb to play around with: seems like it'd be easier to lug around.

Re: Sergio Caroline With His Lusophone
Are the valveset/branches made from scratch? It looks vaguely familiar, but somehow not...is it a Jupiter souzy valveset with modified branches? Where'd the bell come from?

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

Sergio's horn was taken from five different tubas. 3 Kings, 1 Conn and an unknown that had the right taper.

Somewhat reminiscent of Oren Marshall's instrument, that was made by Mike Johnson. Is that where the inspiration came from ?
It is as it is (just like it ever was)
