BBb-12724

Post by vintage7512 »

Miraphone lists on their website this model. They say it is a 3/4, .772 bore, and 16.5 bell with 4 front pistons. Anybody have one of these or have played one? Sounds like a 282 with pistons? I am thinking it might make a good quintet horn for a BB player like me.

I wonder if it's a newer version of the 1271, which was on display in the Mirafone room at the ITEC in Greensborough back in 2001. I really liked that tuba, and manage to obtain a 1271 valve section for one of my project horns, which I am still using.

Imagine an Olds O-99 or a Conn 11J but with a larger bore and four pistons arranged in a comfortable arc to fit a human hand. In my opinion it's an ideal small BBb tuba; I don't understand why it's not more popular. Great intonation, great response, comfortable to play, and not stuffy even in the low register.

I have a 1271 3 valve, it's a decent little horn and having an upright bell would really make me want to play it more. If they are coming out with a front action one I might be tempted into trying one out for myself.

16.5" bell, .740/.772 valve bore

Cool horn! I bet a C version would sell decently too.

That's what I'm talking about. The original 1271 did not have a top slide on the first valve tubing; this one does.

Looks like a 3/4 sized 1291. Neat.
