Duets - Tuba/Perc or Tuba/Flute

Does anyone know of any literature out there that's written for that instrumentation? Some of us would like to play some different pieces in recital, but don't know where to start, really.

Tuba + ______ seems sort of tricky to come by.

Excellent. I ended up finding an older thread on TubeNet with the very same question and some people have recommended the Elephant and the Fly AND The Giraffe and the Bear. I've found the former on Piccolo Press but am having a hard time finding the publisher of the latter.

Has anyone played/heard either of these and can give their opinions? I think I read somewhere the The Giraffe and the Bear was written for Harvey Phillips?

My girlfriend and I are working up Capriccio for tuba and marimba by William Penn. She on marimba of course. It's an interesting piece. I heard a recording of Gene Pokorny doing it only the one he did was for multiple percussion.

Someone mentioned Penn's Capriccio. Later this week I am playing Dance Suite for Tuba and Triangle by Bennie Beach. Also on GP's album is And What Rough Beast? by Satterwhite (sp?). I've never seen the score, but I enjoy listening to it.

KraftWerk and Arabic Dances also come to mind, but I can't recall the composers and both require huge multi-perc setups.

Good Vibes is by Paulo Perfeito, who is from Portugal. Published by Editions BIM.

The Elephant and the Fly is extremely easy for the tubist (it's really for Euph). It is very turn-of-the-20th-century. The piccolo part is in Db (I still get curses from the flautist that performed it with me!). It is lyrical to a point, but more of a 'dazzler' from that era for the euph/tuba. Mostly open tones (BBb) and slurs. I hope that is of help.

If you like beautiful melodies, and if you play the upper range of your bass tuba well (up to G or Ab above the bass staff), you might be interested in my transcriptions of Beethoven’s 3 duets for clarinet and bassoon WoO 27.

These transcriptions come in many keys and for many constellations of two instruments, several of them involving euphonium, bass tuba, or contrabass tuba (treble clef and bass clef notations).

The versions for flute and bass tuba are all to be found in the folders with the respective original keys of C, F, and Bb:
