First Valve Question for you Tech Guys

Post by Kory101 »

Hi all,

The first valve on my Yorkbrunner is a slightly higher than all the others when not pressed down. Not sure exactly how high but definitely noticeable to the naked eye. I also notice sometimes when I press the first valve down, it doesn't go down completely straight. It moves slightly to the side. Any ideas?

Don’t know how the valve stems are mounted on that tuba. My immediate reaction is that the 1st valve stem has become partially unscrewed from the piston.

Along with Klaus' observation, I would say your felt/cork/etc bumpers are a different height in the 1st valve. Sounds like you need Bloke washers. Bloke can "Make it Right."

That sounds typical of a horn whose valves were broken in by someone who doesn't use perfect up-and-down action in their valve technique. If you use a flat finger technique in any way, then what you are seeing sounds typical.
