Three "New" German-style tuba bodies.

Post by The Big Ben »

I saw this interesting thing on daBay:

It's a German-style tuba body- everything from the valve section out: inner, outer branches, bell stack and bell. The seller says it might be Cerveny from Iron Curtain times. There are three of them. They are new but shop-worn. The price seems reasonable- $440/shipped for Germany.

Just from comparing other pictures of Cerveny horns, these might be parts for a CC horn. If someone had a beat to death German-style CC horn, this might be a cheaper alternative to pushing out all the dents and reworking everything.

Don't know what the key might be. But... with that short tuning slide, if you're going to build a tuba, you need to do your 'homework'!

god it's tempting, but I certainly don't have a rotary set laying around, and I don't think a 3 valve piston set would be beneficial in any situations. It does sound like a fin project for somebody that has an old old rotor horn that plays like crap or is mangled.

Appearance and dimensions are almost identical to the current Cerveny CCB-681 (bell = 400 mm = 15.75 in, height = 920 mm = 36.22 in).
