again, as the above disclaimer states- way, way too much sun today--so I will wait until I stop looking red/purple and my body returns to normal to have any at all final judgements
A little aspirin is very effective with sunburn. Not a cure, but amazingly effective at reducing the inflammation and hence symptoms.

Just received my lacquer 1291/2 CC M&M/Jin Bao Miraphone clone 4 piston, 1 rotor tuba today. .... The bell is interesting--on this horn, it is 17 3/4" diam.--I would have thought it would have been approx. 18.5" diam.--like the 1291/2. I have inquired to Michael/M&M re. this size difference....
While that very well may be a fine tuba, it is not a copy of a Miraphone 1291.

The body would appear to be a copy of a Hirsbrunner HBS290/HBS390 (also known as the HB-2 and HB-2P) with a fairly different looking valve section. The third valve tubing is routed like a B&S. The 5th valve is done much like a Gronitz CC.

The Hirsbrunner "4/4" bell diameter is 450mm, which is just over 17.7 inches.

That Eb looks like an awesome deal for under 2K new, I may end up getting one next summer or so. A play-test would be great.

Thoughts:
For under 2 grand, their 186 copy is a great horn that I would unreservedly recommend. Nothing else comes close new, and even used it is hard to find something with that degree of playability.
When you start getting into the 4 grand price range, there are a large amount of used horns available in different sizes, keys, configurations, etc, if one is willing to sacrifice cosmetics.

-not knocking ANYbody's tuba, or any specific make or model.

Why is your horn more expensive than the 186 clone??Is it because it's in CC??Are they both 4/4??thanks................................BB

Are the pistons fast? :)

(Just joking, I full-well know the excitement of playing a *nice* new tuba. :))

So would this be a Jin Bao "original" CC tuba?

With that bell size, and B&S-looking valve set, I would say it's closer to a clone of the B&S PT-4P.

How/where did you get it? I don't see it on the MM website.
