motor oil for rotor bearing

Post by Wilco »

Read some topics here about people using motor oil to oil their rotor bearings. What type/ viscosity is exactly used?

Roger Lewis recommends sewing machine oil, and that is what I use. The higher viscosity can slow down the rotor.

A while back someone here recommended a mixture of "break-free gun oil" and "ultra-pure lamp oil" for piston valves. I went to a local gun shop and found the gun oil prominently displayed near the entrance, and bought a bottle. I have used it straight on rotary valve bearings, and it works very well. It is also a good valve slide lubricant if you want moderate resistance. I think it is very similar to sewing machine oil.
