Or, bring a thermos of hot water and some ramen. There's your 5-minute, $0.30 lunch.

Or better yet, like a lot of college kids... lunch? What's lunch? There's time for lunch?

I tried to make a few sandwiches for lunch when at UNF, but had back to back classes from 9am to about 4. I shared the bass book in the jazz ensemble, and tried to eat my lunch when I wasn't playing. Marc Dickman had none of that. Since wind ensemble was right after, it became a game of stuffing my face and brushing my teeth in under ten minutes.

In grad school I lived in the dorm and ate in the dorm cafeteria. I had a cheeseburger and fries almost every day for lunch. Let's see: 16 week semester, 5 days a week, 2 semesters per year, living for two years in that dorm, and subtracting a few days when I either had something else going on or had something else in the cafeteria: over 300 hamburgers and fries.

Grad school and you were allowed to live in the dorms? For us it was undergrad only. I can't imagine being any older and eating dining hall food... brave man.

Folks, with all the study required, the projects and presentations required, and such, the dorm was literally two blocks away from the main building for my grad degree, and was very well worth it. Student loans, my deceased father's social security benefits (until I aged out) and some family help paid for it. Yes, at the school I went to, there was a dorm that housed grad students on the ground floor and undergrad on the upper floors. The dorm was in two wings, with women in one wing and men in the other, joined by a common lobby/cafeteria/lounge area. At orientation, we were advised that unlike undergrad, that the course would be so rigorous that outside employment to keep spending money going was discouraged to the point of if a person thought they also needed to work at the same time, then second thoughts as to whether the person was fitted to pursuing the course were in order.

Makes sense. Every school is different, so I'm sure it's more normal than I know. I remember around the time I graduated, on-campus housing was in such short supply that even 4th year students were not guaranteed (by contrast, one of my on-campus apartment-mates was an 8th year, on campus, undergrad ).

Grad students mostly lived in the same couple of dump *** towers near campus, but really "lived" in the libraries.

A lay tuba player might consider this thread and and the current 2165 thread rather violent inseminations. Considering the general TN demographics this may be a less than fruitful approach.

This doesn't seem to be saving me money. The only significant difference between your plan and mine is that I use fresh Kobe beef which I have flown in daily from Japan.

Do you also fly in George Foreman to operate the grill?

That's nothing. I fly in Kobe Bryant as my motivational speaker for each practice session. :tuba:

Are you sure it's not Anita Bryant?
